Do I use the new "Upload Selfie" feature?

Yes, according to new DHS regulations as of May 28, 2025, you are required to upload a selfie photo to continue with your ESTA application.

Upload Selfie: On the form, you will find a field to upload the selfie photo or take a photo on the spot.

Make sure that the selfie is not a copy of the passport photo. If you submit the same photo, the application will be cancelled.

Selfie requirements: For accurate results, please follow the recommendations below.

  • Full face: capture the selfie with the full face so that only the head and shoulders are visible.
  • Front: The selfie should be taken from the front, looking directly at the camera. Sunglasses, hats and masks are not allowed.
  • Neutral expression: The face must have a neutral expression, no smiles or other expressions.
  • No filters: No filters or edits should be used on the photo.
  • Flat background: The background of the selfie should be flat and simple.
